edge of time

In one of the short stories I’m writing about fate, a character writes a song. I wanted to be able to reference the song in the story, and have another character hear the first few lines. So, I decided to try to write a song. I have never written a song before, and probably never will again, but it was fun to do something original for my story.

I can hear the music in my head as I sing it, so hopefully it comes through as a song. If I could sing I would’ve added audio, but I can’t :).

Hands clasped, side by side.
Goofy grins, and backlit eyes.
We jumped into life.

We danced around the world
to music only our ears heard.
We held on for dear life.

(Chorus)
We were standing on the ledge,
Yeah, right there on the edge
of time.

Now I can’t see you, I can’t feel your hand.
Nothing went as planned.
We let go of our life.

When did we stop living?
And stop giving our love
to each other?

(Chorus)
We were standing on the ledge,
Yeah, right there on the edge
of time.

Yeah, we were right there on the edge
of time.
It just wasn’t our time.

Have you ever written a song or poem for a story? Or even a story within a story?
